Becoming a school bus driver for Rohrer Bus is an extremely rewarding job. However, because of the safety sensitivity surrounding the work we do, there are several qualifications and certifications a school bus driver must obtain before getting behind the wheel. Don’t worry though, Rohrer Bus is here to help you through the process with the following commitment:

  • We conduct and pay for all of your training!
  • We apply for and pay for all of your clearances!
  • In most districts, bring your pre-school aged kids with you; no more expensive daycare!
  • Above all, we make sure you are ready to drive before you get behind the wheel!
  • Be 21 years of age
  • Read, write, & communicate in English clearly
  • Pass a physical examination, drug screen, & tuberculosis test
  • Have a satisfactory 10-year driving record, FBI Background Clearance, PA State Criminal Record, & PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • Pass all required PA State Knowledge & Driving Tests (CDL, School Bus, Passenger Endorsement, Air Brake Endorsement)
  • Must be able to work weekdays from approximately 6:00 AM to 9:30 AM & 2:15 PM to 4:45 PM.
  • Bus Drivers average $21+ an hour and $110+/day. Van drivers average almost $17/hr and $80/day. By starting an Interested Driver Form, you can see the pay rates specific to the district closest to you!
  • There are always opportunities to earn extra money. Athletic and Activity trips, as well as special events and group charters are paid by the hour.
  • Overall, training will take about 35-40 hours. Some capable, motivated candidates could finish in less time.
  • 17 hours of classroom training. (PA State Law) These are held at our offices during the week Monday-Friday.
  • 10-20 hours of hands-on, in-bus training. We are a PennDOT certified training & testing facility. This means we can test you when you are ready. This training typically occurs between 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM on weekdays.
